Congress 2018
The 27th NA-MIC Project Week Workshop
Held from January 8 to 12 at MIT Boston (USA), the groups made up of researchers from the MACbioIDi research groups presented their projects at the 27th edition of the NA-MIC (National Alliance for Medical Imaging Computing) workshop.
Projects:
Medical Infrared Imaging with Slicer
This project is a research collaboration between the public research institute IACTEC and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (ULPGC) in order to use infrared (IR) sensors and advanced image processing technics in 3D Slicer for medical diagnosis, mainly for foot ulcers detection in diabetic patients. Different infrared cameras shall be connected to 3D Slicer using the PLUS toolkit and a new medical thermal infrared extension shall be developed.
Integration of Medical Imaging Simulators in Slicer
The main objective of this project is the development of an ultrasound (US) simulation prototype based on CT images. Since the project is aimed to obtain simulated data that allow testing algorithms or that could be used for educational purpose. Besides these data, simulated US images come from a CT dataset with better quality that will facilitate the diagnosis. Eventually, this project will be integrated in an extension for Medical Imaging Simulators. This extension is intended to contain multiple modules to simulate images for medical purpose.
Open Anatomy Browser
The main objective of this project is to develop the open anatomy browser as a training platform for a wide audience, including developing countries. Firstly, we plan its adaptation to different languages and study its functionality to import/export data in order to facilitate the communication between this platform and the 3D Slicer. We also will develop new tools to view the atlas and add new annotations to its structures.
Affordable IGT Simulators with Slicer IGT + PLUS
In this project we aim at creating and integrating an Image Guided Therapy (IGT) ultrasound training system in 3D Slicer. Specifically, the main objective is the implementation of an affordable navigated ultrasound simulator based on ArUco low cost optical trackers. The ultrasound simulator already implemented in the PLUS Toolkit is used as reference and new geometrical models will be included.
Slicer Ecosystems Education for Newcomers & Developing Countries
The main objective is the creation of a training plan that could be adapted for 3D Slicer new users with both: medical and engineer profiles. This plan should consider the needs and particular characteristics in the developing countries of Cape Verde, Senegal, Mauritania and Mozambique. In any case the training material should be oriented to the creation of digital learning objects.
ICERI 2018
ICERI 2018 : 20th International Conference on Education, Research and Innovation
Held on 22 and 23 March in Prague, Czech Republic. The MACbioIDi project has contributed to this multidisciplinary congress, in the area of training, with a work on the use of methodologies in the development of teaching content. (Engineering of E-Learning Content Creation: Case Study for African Countries).
