Science and the Innovation Weeks in Canaries

III Gambuesa Scientific

The III edition of the Gambuesa Scientific has celebrated in the Palace of Training and Congresses of Fuerteventura on 16 November. Along the day presented projects and experiences realised by students of Primary, Secondary, Bachillerato and formative Cycles of the educational centres of the island. Celebrated inside the frame of the Weeks of the Science and the Innovation in Canaries, have had like main aim the boost scientific vocations-technological between the alumnado. The Group of Investigation of Medical and Audiovisual Technology of the University Institute of Investigations Biomédicas and Sanitary of The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, presented in this day a workshop of simulation in which it works with technology for the treatment of medical images. The applications 3DSlicer, Plus and OpenAnatomy, have presented like an interesting form to approach the science and the technology to the school population.

Gran Canaria and Tenerife fairs

During the days established visits, so much of the school centres, by the mornings, as of the public in general, by the afternoons, during which did special upsetting in the divulging of the subprojects in which we work, showing as it can develop leading technology to an accessible cost and from Canaries by the Group of Investigation of Medical and Audiovisual Technology of the University Institute of Investigations Biomédicas and Sanitary of The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Activities

  • Software 3DSlicer and development of phantoms:
    • Theory: Introduction to the software of medical image of open source, commenting the different options of visualisation and treatment of the resultant information. Applications of these programs in the field of the training of professional futures doctors and of the development of the same by part of the professionals of engeneerings.
    • Practice: surgical simulator by means of Plus & 3DSlicer. Consistent activity in the guided of some chips to enter in some tubes of cardboard by means of the three-dimensional representation in the computer, without direct visibility.
  • Infrared camera:
    • Theory: application of the technology astrophysics in the reception of infrared feeble signal in the project of development of a tool of follow-up for the case of the foot diabétic by means of a thermal camera.
    • Practice: interpretation of images attracted with the present thermal camera in the stand.
  • Rehabilitation in neurology:
    • Theory: design and application of different interfaces for rehabilitation of patients with neurológic injuries. Eye-tracker And measurer of ECG.
    • Practice: interaction with a software (a game of skill) using a system of follow-up of the look and interaction with a software (displace an object in a space 3D) using the thought.

Navidades Cientificas

After our experience during the weeks of the sciences, the Group of Investigation of Medical and Audiovisual Technology of the University Institute of Investigations *Biomédicas and Sanitary of The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, decide us to collaborate in a formative program *orinetado to schools and institutes where deepens in greater degree with the knowledges that develop inside the group.

Structure of the workshops

    • Open Anatomy:
    • Theory: description of the forms of visualisation of medical image (windows 2D and 3D, hierarchical trees of content). Programming languages applied to graphic web 3D
    • Practice: load and handle of the 4 anatomical atlases at present available, research of determinate anatomical structures and modifications in the representation of the same
  • Types of medical image
    • Theory: Introduction to the different modalities of medical image and the technological theoretical/foundations that *sustentan to each one
    • Practice: selection of the technician of appropriate image to each one of the cases that pose
  • Software 3DSlicer:
    • Theory: Introduction to the software of medical image of open source, commenting the different options of visualisation and treatment of the resultant information.
    • Practice: load of real medical image and visualisation of the same as different parameters
  • Development of phantoms:
    • Theory: Applications of the software of medical image in the field of the training of professional futures doctors and of the development of the same by part of the professionals.
    • Practice: surgical simulator by means of Plus & 3DSlicer. Consistent activity in the guided of a chip to enter in some tubes of cardboard by means of the three-dimensional representation in the computer, without direct visibility.
