The III cycle women and Science welcomes today this talk with which we will meet great astronomers who since ancient times have made fundamental contributions to the advancement of astronomy. From Hypatia to Vera Rubin, Benítez will take a tour of some of the most fascinating discoveries of astronomy that were carried out by women and who did not always obtain the deserved credit.
The talk will take place today, Friday February 22nd in the Piano Room of the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at 18:30 hours.
In Gran Canaria, at 19:30 hours, Dr. Coromoto León Hernández from the University of La Laguna (ULL) will participate in the Casa de Colón. Cabildo de Gran Canaria his talk about ' Ada Byron and the beginnings of computational thinking '
It will analyze the life and legacy of Augusta Ada King, "Countess of Lovelace", who was born in London, United Kingdom under the name of Augusta Ada Byron.
The III cycle of lectures ' women and science ' is developed thanks to the collaboration of the Canarian Foundation Temisas Astronomical Observatory, the researchers Association of Las Palmas, the team of the University Institute of Biomedical Research and Sanitary-IUIBS of the ULPGC, from the project MACbioIDi, and the municipalities of the different communes that participate: in Gran Canaria, Agüimes, Arucas and Las Palmas of Gran Canaria while in Tenerife they collaborate the lagoon and Santa Cruz of Tenerife.
